> Kerry Docherty, founding Director of DCL

Kerry is Director and Company Secretary of Docherty Consulting Ltd, which she helped to found in 2002 with Peter to provide the full range of regeneration, community development and housing services to local authorities, housing associations, community organisations and the private sector.

Kerry has certificates in Management Studies and Counselling and has experience in both the public and private sector housing sectors at director level.

Kerry particularly enjoys the challenge of working with individuals and new groups at any level, to achieve a positive outcome. She has practical experience in helping organisations to change and improve, using counselling and creative management techniques in building people capacity and ‘empowering’.

A snapshot of Kerry’s working life would include:

• Developing neighbourhood agreements in partnership with the local community in an effort to improve services as part of a regeneration programme in Edinburgh;
• Acting as Tenant Advisor to tenants involved in a stock transfer process in Glasgow;
• Delivering training on a range of topics to housing associations and tenant groups in Scotland, Wales and England;
• Leading the team that successfully delivered one of only 2 UK wide tenant choice transfers, after an intensive tenant consultation process.
• Initiating a successful community development policy for a housing association that included innovative social events and activities that built trust and capacity within the local community;
• Implementing a full review of policies and procedures for a housing association to successfully achieve ‘Approved Landlord’ status; and
• Developing a staff guidance and support system including detailed skill requirement / training / appraisal programmes.
