Peter DochertyPeter is the Managing Director of Docherty Consulting Ltd, which he set up in 2002 with Kerry to provide direct specialist services to local authorities, registered social landlords and community organisations. In addition, he also works closely with major national consultancies such as Bucknall Austin, PRP Architects and RPS Consultants on major regeneration projects.

Peter is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and has wide experience of both public and private sectors at director and board level.

He is able to undertake a wide range of team roles within the housing and regeneration sectors, including:

  • Project Management of both urban and rural regeneration initiatives from inception to construction;
  • Financial Assessment and Business Planning for Landlords;
  • Housing Management and Maintenance; and
  • Community Engagement and Consultation.
  • Option Appraisal and Risk Assessment.

This means that in addition to delivering his own agreed set of responsibilities within the requirements of the particular project, he is also able to add value in a measured and sensitive way to other activities and to understand the ‘bigger picture’.

Peter strongly believes in making sure that local people have the right to be fully involved in the decisions which impact on their quality of life and is presently working on major community regeneration projects in Scotland and England.

A snapshot of Peter’s working life would include:

  • Setting up and leading the Project Team to Master Plan a £130m stock transfer and regeneration initiative in London;
  • Lead responsibility for undertaking an extensive tenant consultation exercise throughout Scotland aimed at putting in place a new tenant engagement structure to enable the Scottish Executive to more effectively consult with tenants;
  • Undertaking a feasibility study in an Ayrshire community to determine the funding for new community facilities;
  • Advising a Scottish local authority on its Local Housing Strategy and Standard Delivery Plan, including the development of an Asset Management Strategy designed to achieve the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS);
  • Advising a local authority in London on the modernisation of its Learning Disability Strategy and project managing the redevelopment and refurbishment of 3 day service facilities;
  • Leading the Project Team, on behalf of a consortium of private developers and a leading housing association, which won a competition to fund and deliver a major urban regeneration project in Glasgow;
  • Group director of operations for a large South East England housing association with corporate responsibility for 6 subsidiaries;
  • Chief officer of a large Welsh Unitary Authority with responsibility for public housing services and adult social services; and
  • Senior manager in a large Scottish Local Authority with responsibility for budgets, finance and services, information technology and human resources.
